Swizz Beatz: The Unsung Hero of Clipse’s “So Be It”

Swizz Beatz rolled up his sleeves to fix a sample snag for Clipse’s track “So Be It,” featuring a sharp line on Travis Scott. This issue could have kept the song off streaming platforms indefinitely.

The song includes a sample from Talal Maddah’s 1976 track “Maza Akoulou.” Sadly, Clipse couldn’t check off the legal boxes for using it. How did they solve it? Enter Swizz Beatz.

In a chat with Brian Zissook, Steven Victor, Clipse’s manager, shared the twist. Swizz casually inquired, “Why didn’t you call me about [‘So Be It’]?” As it turns out, Victor did reach out. Swizz just didn’t realize its importance at first.

With the issue now clear, Swizz promised to make it right. He was off to Saudi Arabia and assured Victor he’d talk to the proper folks. True to his word, Swizz got the needed clearance. However, timing was tight, and they missed including it in the initial album drop.

On the bright side, fans could enjoy the track as it was meant to be shortly after the album’s release. Meanwhile, physical copies still hold the edited version, at least until new prints.

This song doesn’t just hit for its beats; Pusha T steps forward with some hard lines towards Travis Scott. “You cried in front of me, you died in front of me,” he raps, highlighting a heated personal feud.

In an interview with GQ, Pusha T revealed that Scott’s diss towards Pharrell Williams triggered this response. He recalls Scott’s lively antics in Paris, playing his new songs for Pharrell and the crew, before ‘Meltdown’ landed with a thud, blindsiding them with its jabs.

Swizz Beatz’s timely intervention preserved the authenticity of “So Be It,” letting fans hear it as intended. On social media platforms, fans and industry insiders couldn’t help but notice Swizz’s deft handling of this bit of hip-hop justice.

Swizz Beatz turned an administrative mess into a triumph for Clipse. Fans can now enjoy “So Be It” without missing its authentic vibe. This tale of quick thinking and influential networking is yet another testament to Swizz Beatz’s undying impact on the music world.
