Nelly Picks His Top Ashanti Tune

Nelly has finally unveiled his all-time favorite Ashanti song, and it is none other than the hit “Baby.”

During a lively conversation on Cocoa Butter, Nelly was posed with a tricky choice among Ashanti’s songs and he went with “Baby,” despite the allure of tracks like “Foolish” and “Always on Time.”

Explaining his selection, Nelly mentioned that while “Rain on Me” held significance during a different phase of his relationship, he preferred to stick with “Baby.” He noted, “‘Rain on Me’ was at a different time in our relationship. We gon’ slide ‘Rain on Me’ along like that and stick with ‘Baby.’”

Nelly further explained his preference for “Baby” over Ashanti’s collaborations with Ja Rule. He cherished the song’s solo appeal: “Yeah, some of them are with my brother Ja, ‘Baby’ is just my wife, I’m gonna ride with ‘Baby.’” He added passionately, “I love ‘Baby.’ That’s one of my favorite Ashanti records.”

Beyond music, Nelly’s recent political comments have stirred discussions, particularly concerning Kamala Harris’s supporters. Some fans weren’t thrilled about his performance at Donald Trump’s inauguration.

In response to the criticism, Nelly took to Instagram to voice his perspective, implying that his respect for the presidency is irrespective of who’s in office. He stated, “I did not campaign for anyone. I do not tell people who to vote for. I respect and love our country from top to bottom good and bad… and I’m very aware that it’s a lot of things we need to work on.”

He emphasized his allegiance to the country, reminiscing about his family legacy with his grand uncle being a Tuskegee airman. For Nelly, performing at the inauguration was about honoring his upbringing and respect for the office rather than endorsing any political side.

His Instagram post also highlighted the irony of some critics’ views, pointing out the biases against two Black men married to Black women, sparked by electoral results. “If you wanna make it about race then let’s goooooooo,” he addressed the observers, challenging the unfair narratives.

Nelly’s affection for “Baby” reaffirms the personal ties we often have with music, while his engagement in broader discussions reflects his candid approach to challenging conversations. Through music and words, he continues to keep fans intrigued.
