Growing up in Oakland, California, Kehlani was introduced to legendary R&B and neo soul artists, like Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu and Jill Scott which formed a core musical influence for them in the early years.
After spending a few years as part of the pop cover band, Poplyfe, the singer-songwriter left the group due to managerial and contractual disputes. In 2013, they released their debut solo track, “Antisummerluv”, on SoundCloud.
