The 75 Greatest Rapper Hooks of All Time

The concept of a hook in a rap song has evolved over the decades. From starting out with DJ scratches (Nas’ “N.Y. State of Mind”) and crowd-hyping chants (Boogie Down Productions’ “South Bronx”) to now rappers fully singing the choruses, hip hop has transformed from purely beats & rhymes to prioritising melodies & hooks.

In this list, we’re going to be ranking the 75 best hooks and choruses done by a rapper . We’re not talking about rap songs where the artist is assisted by the likes of T-Pain, Nate Dogg, The-Dream, Akon, or some R&B singer to do the hook. (Side note: do people consider Nate Dogg a rapper or singer first?) This list also doesn’t include vocal samples or DJ scratches.

So, let’s get into it. From Method Man’s butter-pecan hook on “Ice Cream” to Mobb Deep’s threats on “Shook Ones (Part II)” to 50 Cent’s many classics, here are the 75 greatest rapper hooks of all time.
