The single, which the rapper said he wrote about a deceased childhood friend, received over 80 millions YouTube views and 120 million streams on Spotify. From there, Roddy continued to build up his name by appearing alongside the likes of artists like Meek Mill, Future, Young Thug, A Boogie wit da Hoodie and others.
Then on December 6, 2019, he dropped “The Box” and became a superstar. Produced by 30 Roc and Datboisqueeze, the single off his upcoming debut album, Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial , was a worldwide smash and became one of the biggest songs of 2020.
“The Box” spent eleven weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, as well as topping the charts in other countries like Canada, New Zealand, and Hungary.
